Water can be pumped from a well or spring with either a surface mounted self priming pump or a
submersible pump. Surface mounted pumps have a maximum useable suction lift of about 7 meters.
For deeper wells a submersible pump must be used.
Pumps can be controlled by a float switch or time switch to fill a reservoir or storage tank or can be
coupled to pressure vessels to provide a direct constant pressurised supply similar to a mains supply.
